UGW9811 Unified Gateway Upgrade Guide

1. Application Description

1) Service Description

An upgrade guide details the upgrade and rollback procedures and operations, and provides answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs) and troubleshooting methods for the UGW9811.

2) Documentation Description

a. The upgrade guide describes the process of upgrading equipment from an earlier version to a later version, and includes the following information:

Pre-upgrade preparations, software uploading, software synchronization, software loading, subscriber deactivation after board locking, activation, verification, and rollback.

Detailed operations and purposes are as follows:

  • Software uploading: uploads the host software to an NE.
  • Software synchronization: synchronizes software versions of the active and standby boards for consistency between the boards.
  • Software loading: writes the host software to the storage medium of all boards in online mode to reduce the duration of host re-startup.
  • Subscriber deactivation after board locking: prevents new subscribers from accessing the network during an upgrade and ensures that online subscribers properly entering offline mode, ensuring completeness of online subscribers charging data records.
  • Software activation: activates software in a new version.

b. The upgrade modes include common upgrade and dual-plane upgrade, and there are three types of upgrade tools.

  • Services will be interrupted for 90 seconds and 25 minutes during a dual-plane upgrade and a common upgrade, respectively.
  • The upgrade tools include the local maintenance terminal (LMT), upgrade tools, and U2000 (known as M2000 for the version before UGW9811 V900R011).

c. Using the upgrade tool to perform the upgrade is recommended.

On the upgrade tool, four buttons, Check before upgrade, Download and Synchronous version, Load to storage media and Active, and Rollback version, are available.

The functions are as follows:

  • Check before upgrade: This step includes the check on the current NE, backup of NE files, and configuration of upgrade-related data.
  • Download and Synchronous version: This step includes two sub-steps: "Software uploading" and "Software synchronization."
  • Load to storage media and Active: This step includes three sub-steps: "Software loading", "Subscriber deactivation after board locking", and "Software activation."
