I found two transponders that can be, from my point of view, very useful for any mobile oparator that is analizing the possibilitie of implement C-RAN on his network. Those boards are ELOM and LQM2 and both can deploy CPRI over OTN in a metro-WDM network.

Using this service you can extend the remote radio unit up to 80Km. and support many options of CPRI standard. A quick description of these boards below:

C-RAN means four Cs : Clean, Centralized processing, Collaborative radio, and real-time Cloud Radio Access Network.

C-RAN is Cloud Radio Access Network, and the tendency is to evolve to this kind of solutions to reduce the capex and opex of the network. Also the network virtualization is a future implementation to reduce cost for operator and reduce the cost per bit.

We have participated in a OSN1800 CPRI Trial Project where we tested CPRI2 (1.25Gbps) using ELOM boards for 3G services. The requirement from customer was extend the distance between its BBU and RRU through WDM link. All tests became successful.
