The SG supports SS7 and SIGTRAN, and implements the interconnection between SS7 and IP. In addition, it can work in signaling point agent mode and signaling transfer point mode.

The SS7 protocols supported by the SG include:

  • Message Transfer Part (MTP)

  • Signaling Connection Control Part (SCCP)

  • Transaction Capabilities Application Part (TCAP)

  • Operation Maintenance and Administration Part (OMAP)

The SIGTRAN protocols supported by the SG include:

  • Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP)

  • MTP2-User Peer-to-Peer Adaptation Layer (M2PA)

  • MTP2 User Adaptation Protocol (M2UA)

  • MTP3 User Adaptation Protocol (M3UA)

  • SCCP User Adaptation Protocol (SUA)

The SG can work in signaling point agent mode or in STP mode. It implements the following functions:

  • Transferring signaling messages between PSTN/PLMN and IP network

  • Forwarding signaling messages inside PSTN/PLMN

  • Shielding messages

  • Translating global title (GT)

  • Supporting multiple signaling point codes (SPCs)

The SG supports the following signaling links:

  • 64-kbit/s signaling link

  • 2-Mbit/s high-speed signaling link (including N*64 kbit/s, provided by E1 interface)

  • 1.544-Mbit/s high-speed signaling link (including N*64 kbit/s, provided by T1 interface)

  • ATM high-speed signaling link (provided by E1 interface)
