|
Brief Introduction In this post we will discuss “DNS9816 Product Documentation”, Product Version: V100R006C00, Library Version: 06, Date: 03/31/2014. The link to the library -
http://support.huawei.com/hdx/hdx.do?docid=SE0000734393&lang=en Highlights of the Library The library has five major sections –
1. Description This part contains Networking Description, Product Description, Hardware Description, Software Description, Feature Description, and Security Management Description in long detail. a. Networking Description This section describes Typical DNS Logical Networking and Typical DNS Physical Networking.
The DNS supports two-node cluster hot backup. 1+1 active/standby mode is recommended. The active DNS server works as the master node for the configuration data; the standby DNS server synchronizes resource files from the active server.
b. Product Description
Overview of a DNS Server The domain name system (DNS) is a distributed database that can provide the mappings between all computer names and IP addresses on the Internet. In a TCP/IP network, IP addresses are used for routing between computers. IP addresses, however, are complex and hard to memorize, so people prefer to use a meaningful name to search a computer.
Key Benefits The DNS9816 provides rich functions and multiple operation and maintenance schemes to enhance the reliability.
Architecture This chapter describes the hardware and software architecture of Huawei DNS server. Features This chapter describes services provided by the domain name system (DNS) and functions implemented by these services - Interface with SGSN/MME, Static Routing, Record Query, NS Record Query, NAPTR Record Query, SRV Record Query, Recursive Query, Iterative Query, View Function of Domain Name Resolution, Hot Backup Function, CNAME Record Query, MX Record Query, and AAAA Record Query.
Operation and Maintenance The SGSN9810 provides rich operation and maintenance functions to ensure proper operation of the system.
Technical Specifications Domain name system (DNS) technical specifications provide references for operation and maintenance personnel. This chapter describes the configuration diagram of components in the NAU cabinet, the wiring diagram of the NAU cabinet, and the configuration diagram of domain name system (DNS) signaling cables. The NAU cabinet is an N68E-22 cabinet. The components in the NAU cabinet are: one power distribution box (PDB), two or four local area network (LAN) switches, two firewalls, one router, and two domain name servers (DNSs) or two Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) servers.
c. Software Description The data required for operating the Berkeley Internet name domain (BIND) software is configured in the configuration files. Before the BIND service processes are started, you need to write the data configuration to corresponding configuration files according to the specified syntax. The local maintenance terminal (LMT) is the software used to maintain a domain name server (DNS).The LMT provides man-machine language (MML) interfaces in graphical user interface (GUI) mode for easy management and maintenance of a DNS server. d. Feature Description This chapter describes HCFD-010000 Interface Functions, HCFD-020000 Routing Functions, HCFD-030000 Service Functions, HCFD-040000 Reliability Functions, HCFD-050000 O&M Functions, HCFD-110000 DNS O&M Management Function, and HCFD-110100 Supporting IPv6 Networking. e. Security Management Description This part describes DNS Security Architecture, Security Policy Overview, Security for the Device Security Layer, Security for the Network Security Layer, Security for the Application Security Layer, and Reference.
2. Installation and Commissioning a. Site Requirements This chapter describes the requirements of a site where the device is to be located and installed. b. Hardware Installation
This chapter describes how to install the Netra T4-1 and DL380p Gen8 server. c. Software Installation
This section describes DL380p Gen8 how to install the software. Also describes how to install SPARC T4-1 software, Logging In to the DNS Server Through PuTTY, Connecting the PC to the DNS Server, Establishing a Direct Connection Between the PC and the DNS Server iLO Port, Configuration Files Generated Automatically After the DNS Server Is Installed, and, Using the LMT. d. Initial Configuration This chapter includes detail on Parameter Configuration Notes, Performing the Basic Configurations of the Master DNS Server, Performing the Basic Configurations of the Slave DNS, Configuring Resource Files of Master DNS Server, Configuring Resource Files of Slave DNS Server, Configuring the Service Network Port of the DNS Server, DNS Server Accessing M2000, Use SSL Accessing DNS9816, Configuring Huawei SGSN/MME Heartbeat Detection and DNS Configuration Example.
e. Commissioning Product commissioning refers to a series of commissioning and verification on the system after hardware and software are installed. It ensures that the system can be put into use according to the design requirements and can run stably, reliably and securely. To ensure that product commissioning can be carried out smoothly, you need to make preparations before the commissioning.
3. Operation and Maintenance a. Configuration Management This section contains detail on Configuring the Time Zone of the DNS Server (Solaris), Configuring the Time Zone of the DNS Server (Linux), Configuring the Time Zone of the DNS Server Using DST (Solaris), Setting the Date and Time on the DNS, Configuring the NTP Service of the DNS (Solaris), Configuring the NTP Service of the DNS (Linux), configuring the Host Name of the DNS Server (Solaris), configuring the Host Name of the DNS Server (Linux), and, configuring the IP Address of the DNS Server (Solaris). b. Prevent Failures
This describes the overview of the prevent Failures. Prevent Failures, as a type of preventive maintenance, means to find out and solve the weakness or hazard when the system is in normal operation. The periodic check and maintenance of the device ensures that the system can safely, stably, and reliably operate for a long time. 4. Fault Management a. Alarms Handling This part describes the following alarms –
System Cold Start Bind_proc Start Link Down Link Up Authentication Failure Harddisk Overflow CPU Over Loading Synchronization Failure Link Down Bind_proc Stop Potential Expiration of the Certificate Expiration of the Certificate Invalid license License expired License expiring
b. Troubleshooting This section describes the procedure for troubleshooting. Maintenance personnel are responsible for locating and handling SGSN faults. They must possess this knowledge. However, if you encounter any problem that is difficult to resolve, contact HUAWEI Technical Support Department.
5. References Contains detail on Collecting Device Archive Information, Protocol Trace Operation Guide, MML Reference, and Counters. The DNS9816 does not support device archive information collection using the iManager M2000. The counter section has detail on the following –
Total Number of Internal Resolution Requests Total Number of Internal Resolution Successes Average DNS CPU Usage Average DNS Memory Usage Total Number of External Resolution Requests Total Number of External Resolution Successes Total Number of Resolution Requests not found Total Number of Recursive Resolution Successes Total Number of Iterative Resolution Successes
Issues with the Library Most part of this library is pretty rich in content and has excellent detail. The only thing I will complain about is that the “Counter” part is too short. In general senses counter should contain as much detail as possible or at least provide links for further details. Here in this document in some cases the references end in one line! Huawei should work on this and add more contents. They should also add some signaling descriptions and pictures with the counter detail.
Screenshots of relevant content The following screen shot of the document shows description of “Remove Root DNS (RMV ROOTDNS)”. |
