HRP Overview:

The Eudemon is a stateful firewall. It produces a session entry corresponding to each session that is dynamically generated. Massive session entries are created on the active firewall through which traffic passes, and no session entry is created on the standby device through which no traffic passes. If the session entries and configuration commands on the active device have not been synchronized to the standby device, a swithover between the active and standby devices will affect the normally running of services, because the traffic cannot match a session entry after being diverted to the standby device.

To ensure the smooth failover between the active and standby devices, the key configuration commands and session status information must be synchronized between the active and standby devices in advance. To implement this synchronization, the Eudemon provides the HRP (short for Huawei Redundancy Protocol) backup function. After HRP backup is enabled, the key configuration commands and session status information are synchronized to the standby device in real time. If the active device is faulty, the standby device smoothly takes over the traffic.
