Huawei has launched Future Oriented Smart Grid Universal Transport Solution for the power industry at CeBIT 2016, the leading international IT exhibition and conference. Future Oriented Smart Grid Universal Transport Solution enhance the reliability of smart grid network, access multi-service for future evolution.

Huawei partners with the world's leading electric power solution providers, in developing associated services and communication bearer solutions specifically for the power grid industry. Huawei's universal transport solution tailored for smart grid application adopts a packet & TDM unified switching architecture featuring end-to-end MPLS-TP technology, built-in PCM, ASON, 40G line cards, and other industry-leading technical solutions.

This solution helps industry customers address current and future development issues with the increased complexities in smart grid operations as SCADA, hotline, RTU, teleprotection, and office service utilities are improved and added and as devices over the network continue to compound. The Huawei solution helps improve O&M efficiencies to offset the increasingly high complexity in the overall layout.

  • Unified switching of packet and TDM services flexibly adapts to different application scenarios, meeting special requirements on power service transmission.
  • MPLS-TP delivers enhanced protection and O&M functions compared with MPLS technology. MPLS-TP reduces O&M costs and improves network reliability.
  • Network structure is simplified because the built-in PCM technology requires fewer network nodes.
  • ASON effectively protects the network against multiple points of failure, improving network reliability to 99.9999%.
  • The PID-based line card provides 40 Gbit/s bandwidth and reduces the demands for various optical amplifiers, DCM components, and fiber connections, simplifying network OAM and configuration.

These advanced technologies ready power grid operators with the capabilities to handle business growth for the next 5 to 10 years.

Huawei's industry-leading Universal Transport Solution for smart grid cuts customer OPEX and CAPEX about 30%. To date, Huawei has collaborated with electric power solution providers in deploying transmission solutions tailored for power grids in more than 300 projects in 26 countries. Industry analysts are confident that the Huawei universal transport solution will propel smart grid development and address the problems therein.
