I recently bought a Vodafone K3520 (E169).
Each time I pluged the modem in one of my computers (one is XP Professional SP2 and the other is Vista Home Premium) I got the setup program running because the autorun in memory CD.
I found in the internet an application named "Switch Port" that successfully alowed me to deactivate and activate the memory CD. Unfortunatelly this application also deactivated the microSD bay but it is not able to activate it again.
Is there a way to re-activate teh microSD bay?

I tried to delete the drivers and re-install, but it didn't help.
I suspect that the "switch port" utility stores some information in the modem, itself.
I have found in the Vodafone site the official vodafone firmware (11.314.12.02.00) for my modem. Is it also the official HUAWEI firmware for that modem?
Is it possible that re-writing the firmware the microSD bay will be back?
I believe that this would be dangerous procedure, but if it is the only solution...

You can try switch by AT command.

Great! I'll try with the AT command.
Just could you tell me which AT command?
Should I refer to http://forum.huawei.com/jive4/thread.jspa?threadID=324405&tstart=0&orderStr=8 thread? Should I use diag=1 or some other value?

I can't understand why Huawei staff recommend to try an AT command but they don't tell which AT command. Must I guess the commands?
On the other hand, I have found a Linux application named usbmodeswitch that allows to send USB commands to the modem.
Does anyone know which command must I send to the modem to re-activate the microSD bay?

Re: K3520 (E169) microSD lost

Hello Huawei staff,
I could finally solve my problem, but it had been much faster if you had told me to update the firmware or the right AT command. Thank you for nothing.
Now the response for people with my same problem. I tried with several AT commands:
at^u2diag=0 at^u2diag=1 at^u2diag=2 at^u2diag=3 at^u2diag=4 at^u2diag=5 etc...
With some of then my computer recognized the K3520 as an ethernet card, or the ZeroCD was apperaring and disappearing, but none of the commands I tried recovered the microSD slot.
Then I decided to update the firmware. I looked in the internet and I found several firmware revisions for my modem:
11.314.12.02.00 : It is the offical vodafone firmware version. Can be found in http://www.vodafone.de/hilfe-support/technischer-support/97002.html and other vodafone sites (UK, Portugal)
11.314.13.00.261 : This version is available from Virgin in Australia (http://download.virginbroadband.com.au/E169_Upgrade_B409.zip)
11.314.17.00.00 : This version is used in other providers, such as O2 in germany (http://portal.o2online.de/nw/support/downloads/software/surfstick/index.html) or Optus in Australia (http://help.optuszoo.com.au/help/wireless/wirelessbroadband/connected/usb)
I was thinking about this topic for several days and finally decided to reflash the same version 11.314.12.02.00), because I'm not sure if the newer firmwares will make me to have problems with provider.
After updating firmware I unplugged and plugged again my K3520 and the microSD slot was available again.
I hope that one of the newer firmwares may enhance the UP speed to HSUPA, but I'm afraid of test this. I don't want to have more unespected problems and not having support. If someone test it with these or other firmware versions I would be grateful if he/she post its results in this forum (in this thread or in other).
Thanks in advance to all other people.

It is just the answer I was looking for one month ago. Is it easier today?
Thank you very much
