USG2000 initial settings and subnet mask allocation

The subnet mask of the USG2000 specifies the bits, in the IP address, used for the network or subnet ID as well as for the host ID. The AND operation is performed for the corresponding bits of the 32-bit IP address and the subnet mask, to determine the network ID corresponding to the IP address. Assume that the IP address is 10.1.1.2 and the subnet mask is 255.255.0.0. The result of the AND operation performed for the corresponding bits of the IP address and the subnet mask, that is, 10.1.0.0, is the network address.
