CX311 introduction

The CX311 includes a physical switching plane: 10GE/FCoE converged switching plane.
10GE L2/L3 switching:
? Supports 16 x 10GE uplink ports and 8 x 8G FC uplink ports.
? Supports 32 x 10GE downlink ports (each half-width slot: 2 x 10GE).

Stacking:
? Provides 1 x 40GE port that is connected to the midplane for stacking modules.
? If you need higher stacking bandwidth, you can add stacking connections by using panel ports.
? A maximum of four switch modules in a chassis can be stacked.

10GE/FCoE converged switching:
? Supports DCB (PFC, ETS, and DCBX) and TRILL.
? Supports FIP Snooping Bridge (FSB).
? Supports Fibre Channel Forwarder (FCF).

The two CX311s in a pair of slots can operate independently, in 1+1 redundancy mode, or in load sharing mode by working with the OS and NICs.
The CX311 integrates with the ODM Qlogic FCoE gateway mezzanine module (FCF component), which provides the following functions:
? Port rate: 2G/4G/8G auto-negotiation
? Standard FCF functions: FCoE ports are converted into FC uplink ports.
? Switching and NPV modes
? In switching mode, the FC switch module can be directly attached to an FC storage device.
? In switching mode, the FC switch module can communicate with the FC switch from Qlogic using the E-Port.
? In NPV mode, the FC switch module can communicate with an FC SAN switch from another vendor.
? In NPV mode, the FC switch module can communicate with an FC SAN switch from Qlogic.
